SIFST FSMS Consultant Registration Scheme
Introduction to the SIFST FSMS Consultant Registration Scheme
The Singapore Institute of Food Science and Technology (SIFST), a non-profit professional organization dedicated to promoting food safety and upholding professional ethics, has established the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Consultant Registration Scheme. This initiative reflects SIFST’s commitment to raising industry standards and supporting competent advisory services within food establishments.
A comprehensive FSMS is widely recognized as a critical tool in ensuring the production of safe, high-quality food. While such systems may be implemented internally by an establishment’s in-house team, the engagement of an experienced FSMS consultant can offer valuable expertise and impartial guidance.
To that end, the SIFST Council—through its FSMS Consultant Registration Committee (the Sub-Committee)—administers this Scheme, designed to assess, register, and maintain a roster of qualified FSMS consultants. These consultants must demonstrate competence, reliability, and adherence to the ethical and technical benchmarks outlined by the Scheme.
Objectives of the Scheme include:
- Recognizing FSMS consultants with proven capability in food safety and related disciplines;
- Enhancing the quality of FSMS consultancy services in Singapore;
- Encouraging the adoption and advancement of FSMS practices in local food manufacturing settings; and
- Promoting international and domestic acceptance of FSMS consultancy work to facilitate trade and commerce.
Registered Consultants, as they are formally designated, are assessed based on established criteria and are subject to ongoing review and surveillance to uphold the integrity of the Scheme. All applicant information is treated with strict confidentiality, in accordance with SIFST policies and Singaporean law.
